The best known species of Rat is the Brown Rat (Rattus Norvegicus) and the Black Rat (Rattus Rattus). This group, generally known as the Old World Rats originated in Asia.

Brown Rats can adapt to pretty much any environment and are omnivorous. They often live with and near to humans.

Rats can carry nasty diseases, which they can spread to humans, normally through their urine, including:

  • Weils Disease.

  • Salmonella.

  • E.Coli.

  • Listeria.

  • Hanta Virus.

The Brown Rat can reproduce every 21 days with an average litter size of 6; therefore it is extremely important not to leave the problem! Rats need access to Food, Water and Shelter in order to thrive.

If you hear scratching, find Rat droppings or see the Rats themselves, it is best to get it taken care of as soon as possible to prevent further issues.

Rats can inflict an enormous amount of structural damage! They can cause severe fires by gnawing electricity cables, flooding by puncturing water pipes and worse, chewing through gas pipes. The insurance sector has estimated Rodent damage to wiring is responsible for 25% of all electrical fires in buildings.
