MOLES.

Moles are small mammals adapted to a subterrean lifestyle. They have cylindrical bodies, velvety fur, very small inconspicuous ears and eyes, reduced hindlimbs and short powerful forelimbs with large paws adapted for digging. The term 'mole' is found in the Talpidae family in the order Eulipotyphia found in most parts of North Amercia, Asia and Europe.

A moles diet primarily cinsists of Earth Worms and other small invertibrates found in the soil and a variety of nuts. The mole runs are in reality 'worm traps', the mole senses when a worm falls into the tunnel and quickly runs along to eat it. Becasue a moles saliva contains a toxin that can paralize earthworms moles are able to store living worms for later consumption.

Moles are considered Agricultural pests in certain countries. Problems cited with moles include contamination of silage with soil particles making it unpalatable for livestock, the covering of pasture with soil reducing its size and yield, damage to agricultural machinery, damage to plants, weed invasion and damage to drainage systems and water courses. Moles burrow and raise molehills killing parts of lawns.

Moles are controlled with traps and smokes. Here at LadyBug Pest Control we can provide a BPCA certified technician who understands the habits of moles and provide a highly targeted treatment.
